Why this site exists

“Monitoring” can refer to very different things. Our aim is to make the distinctions useful: what a feature does, what access it needs and what the available information cannot tell you.

Who writes the guides

Articles are published under the shared byline ChatVigil Editorial Team. This is the project’s editorial attribution, not a claim of professional certification or an independent testing lab. We do not claim hands-on experience with monitoring products we have not tested.

How we handle sources

1. Start with the question in the article title and answer it directly.
2. Check feature descriptions against WhatsApp or Meta documentation and record the actual review date.
3. Link to the sources used, and label our recommendations as editorial assessment.
4. Explain relevant requirements, exceptions and rollout limitations.

Some WhatsApp Help Center pages return little text when opened by automated tools. For this initial edition, we also used the search tool’s text of the official pages to check their contents. We do not describe that as hands-on product testing.

Commercial interests and independence

ChatVigil is developing its own product, so our interest in monitoring is not purely academic. The current site has no paid placement, affiliate links or sponsored reviews. We are not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.

Keeping information current

Each article shows when its sources were checked. A check date is not a promise that a feature is identical on every account or remains unchanged afterward. We update the relevant article when a change is verified; we do not publish duplicate versions solely for search engines.
